Rebecca Adorno’s practice stems from a research-based approach rooted in citizen science, upcycling technology and fine arts. Motivated by the socio-political and environmental realities of Puerto Rico and by poetically recontextualizing discarded technologies, field samples and scientific data, Adorno creates multimedia pieces that accentuate the spectator’s awareness of anthropogenic and natural climatic events. She believes that sound can be a catalyst and serve as a historical document for all sorts of anthropogenic and natural climatic events.
As a sound sensitive individual she’s interested in exploring the gamut of physical and environmental reactions that different audio frequencies cause on humans and their surrounding ecologies. Her most recent work explores infrasound as a perceptual mechanism, by highlighting instances where it is possible to perceive it through climatic events and underwater noise.
