About
This blog provides a forum through which people can express their thoughts regarding specific subjects that they wish to address under cover of anonymity. They get to unload their burdens even if at the end a stranger is the one who gets the message. The Unsent Letters Blog pays homage to the act of writing a letter -while exploring issues such as anonymity and privacy in a networked world. These letters will be part of my thesis project Instrument for Unsent Letters
After accumulating enough blog entries I will proceed to record audio clips of myself reading them. I could be seen as an intermediary between the anonymous sender and recipient.
The installation consists of five custom made string instruments and a type writer, which will act as an interface for the interaction. The typewriter will be wired in such way that each key will correspond to a servo motor and each servo motor will correspond to a string in the instruments.
The interactivity between the strings and the audio clips will be possible by programming custom made software. The software will read the numbers generated by the contact of fingers with the keys of the type writer. These numbers will trigger the play function of audio clips that will be stored in the computer. As for the hardware, guitar pick-ups will be used to amplify the signal from the strings.
The final output of the audio will be speakers located around the galley space. The viewer will hear the narration both within the perimeter of the installation and in other rooms or even the street.
